What is Web 2.0? According to an article written by, Tim O’Reilly there is still some confusion. “Some people decrying it as a meaningless marketing buzzword and others accepting it as the new conventional wisdom” (O’Reilly, 2005). Before attending Fullsail, I had never heard of Web 2.0, so the term was neither meaningless or a new conventional wisdom.
Co-Founder of Zend, Andy Gutmans is featured in a video that explains Web 2.0. Web 2.0 has three main features. Web 2.0 tools have RIA, rich internet applications, SOA, service oriented architectures and the social web aspect. In this blog, I am summarizing three Web 2.0 tools that I found. Tikatok, survs, and yacapaca are the three Web 2.0 tools that I analyzed.
Tikatok is a site where students can write, illustrate and publish their own books. On this site students can upload their own drawings. I found that teachers have the option to create a class area for students to create their stories. Also, published books can be read online, so that students can get ideas and/or analyze others writing. This site requires a username and password, in order to view and create the books.
Survs is a collaborative online survey tool. Teams, not just one person, can create and design surveys on Survs. Also, results can be analyzed online. I liked that Survs had tips and online videos showing how to create surveys.
Yacapaca is a site for both students and teachers. Teachers can create quizzes, surveys, tests, share assessments with other teachers and set up class work for students. What is nice about this site is that it can analyze teaching practices of teachers. A down fall that I saw of this site is that was created for teachers in Britain, Bulgaria, Monaco, and Russia, and the English usage has the British spelling, not American spellings, which might be confusing to students. What was nice about this site was that it was not necessary to create a username and password, in order to view some of the assignments and quizzes.
